The 9th meeting of the Society took place in the city hall of Wetzlar, Germany, May 8th to 11th, 2004 and was organised by Prof. Manfred Kaps as president of the meeting.
This year the Section of Neurology and the Group of Vascular Ultrasound of the German Society of Ultrasound in Medicine (DEGUM) attached their annual summer meeting to our conference in order to concentrate all activities at one place and one date. The main topics of the congress were focused on clinical applications of neurosonology, the role of ultrasound in stroke prevention and functional testing. Wetzlar, an ancient medieval town, dates back on emperor Friedrich Barbarossa. It has influenced the works of different poets, e.g. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe who stayed there 200 years ago and wrote his novel “The sorrows of young Werther”.
